Phil Foden expressed his delight at reaching the FA Cup semi-finals after City defeated Newcastle 2-0 at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s men put in an excellent performance, which started with an early breakthrough, that came through Bernardo Silva inside 13 minutes first-half minutes.

The Portuguese saw a deflected effort loop over Newcastle goalkeeper, Martin Dubravka, to give City the advantage after it clipped Dan Burn.

On the half hour mark, another deflected shot from Bernardo hit the back of the net, but this time, it diverted in from Sven Botman’s head to double our lead.

Foden, Jeremy Doku, Ruben Dias and Erling Haaland all chances to increase the scoreline further and emphasis City’s dominance in the game.

But it wasn’t to be, as City made it through to FA Cup semi-finals for a sixth consecutive season - the first time a club has achieved that in the competition’s illustrious history.

After the game, man of the match Foden spoke of his admiration for his teammates.

“This team keeps surprising me,” the England international expressed.

“We are still there in every competition, we spoke about trying to achieve everything we did last year, so I’m delighted that we are still there and we get to go to Wembley!

“We maybe lacked that final ball today, but overall I thought we did more than enough to win the game.

“I think it’s about mentality and working hard because they did have their moments at times where they counter attacked when we gave the ball away cheaply.

“But this group of lads never give up and we showed determination to see the game out.”
