Ilkay Gundogan has emphasised the importance of returning from the international break with a 2-0 Premier League victory over Burnley.

First-half goals from Kevin de Bruyne and Gundogan earned all three points for City at Turf Moor, propelling Pep Guardiola‘s side back to the top of the Premier League.

The German, who became the league’s all-time top scoring German with his goal, admitted that beating the Clarets is a key result in the title run in.

“Obviously very happy, not just about my goal, but more importantly about the victory today, especially after the international break last week,” he said.

“It was very important to start the remaining part of the season with this victory. We know now Every game is going to be decisive, every game is going to feel like a final. The three points today are very important. 

It was a good performance. The first goal helped us a lot.”
