We continue our countdown of 10 of the best pre-season friendlies in Manchester City’s recent history with a 2-1 win over Hearts in July 2014.

Scott Sinclair and Aleksandar Kolarov scored either side of Osman Sow’s goal to give the defending Premier League champions victory at Tynecastle Stadium.

City lost 2-0 to Dundee in our opening pre-season friendly and Hearts had their moments early on, with Javi Garcia heading off the line and Richard Wright making smart save from Dale Carrick.

But Manuel Pellegrini’s side’s class soon told as Alvaro Negredo threaded an eye-of-the-needle pass through the host’s defence, which Sinclair calmly fired home.

Hearts equalised with a slick move of their own as Sow beat the offside trap, latch onto Carrick’s defence-splitting pass and despatching a cool finish past Willy Caballero.

Kolarov sealed the win from the penalty spot, firing into the bottom corner after Emyr Huws was tripped inside the box.
