Pep Guardiola says staff and players must “challenge ourselves” if City are to earn more honours in 2023/24.

Guardiola’s City head into the new season as Treble winners, having collected silverware in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.

The boss will be looking for another successful season in this coming campaign, which starts away at Burnley tomorrow, with an 20:00 (UK) kick-off.

And he believes feedback within the squad will be crucial in order to keep standards and aspirations high.

“We have to challenge ourselves. I cannot do it for myself. My staff have to challenge me, I have to challenge them. The players, they have to challenge me, I have to challenge the players,” he told media in his pre-match press conference.

“We have to push each other.

“We start again. We will see. It’s 11 months, step by step, recover who we are and compete how we have done.

“We’ll take our best form from the players and the players have to know that ‘okay, we’re here, let’s go again, summer is over, let’s go again.’

“This job is short, it’s magnificent, so beautiful but 33,34 it’s over.

“So you have to use it every season like an opportunity. You have to be ready.”
