Kevin De Bruyne said he was happy to be handed the responsibility of penalties after his spot kick secured a stunning 2-1 Champions League win at Real Madrid.

Though City went behind to an Isco strike in our last 16 first leg encounter at the Bernabeu, Gabriel Jesus drew us level with a fine header.

Five minutes later, De Bruyne stepped up to convert from the spot after Raheem Sterling had been brought down to set the seal on a historic first ever win against the Spanish giants.

“I was happy to take the responsibility and to try to help the team,” said the Belgian midfielder.

“I never blame anyone if they take a penalty and miss. I took the responsibility so its nice to help the team.

“We still have to work to do though (in the second leg).”
