Pep Guardiola says desire not revenge will be the driver for City in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League semi-final first leg away at Real Madrid.

The sides will step out at the Bernabeu in a repeat of last season’s titanic last four clash.

Twelve months ago, it was the Spanish giants who prevailed, Carlo Ancelotti’s side securing a 6-5 win on aggregate after extra time.

However, addressing the media at Monday night’s pre-match press conference in the Spanish capital, the City boss said revenge was the last thing on his mind.

Instead, it was a desire to perform and learn the lessons from last year.

“We are not here for revenge. What happened happened in the past,” Guardiola stressed.

“The lesson we can learn is to learn a little bit what happened, get a good result and perform well tomorrow to give us the opportunity to reach the final when we play in Manchester.

“This is completely different to last season.

“It didn’t happen last season because we played Real Madrid and they know what to do. But the more we play against them the more we learn.

“One year later we are here again. After what happened last season, it’s a good point for us.”
