Rico Lewis says he is relishing his increased workload with City so far this season.

The Academy graduate has been involved in all but one of City’s games across the first three months of the campaign and has made a huge impact both defensively as well as being deployed at times in midfield.

In addition, Lewis has also featured in three of England’s four UEFA Nations League fixtures over the past two months.

And addressing the media at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of City’s latest Champions League clash at home to Sparta Prague, the teenager said playing so many games back-to-back was a challenge he was happy to embrace.

“I’ve always been someone who tries to be as fit as possible and be available,” Lewis said.

“But I think playing so many games already this season I almost appreciate more the players who have done it in the past, the last season and the season before, as it is so difficult.

“No game is easy - especially for us.

“It’s difficult to switch into that so quickly; to adjust to playing so many games as opposed to not playing that many games on the bounce.

“I’m enjoying it and that’s the thing that is pushing me through the tiredness.

“All I want to do is play football and for this club so it’s pushing me through it.”
