Riyad Mahrez always believed that City would do enough to secure our place in the Champions League semi-finals despite going behind against Borussia Dortmund.

Jude Bellingham’s superb curling effort had put the hosts ahead on the night and on aggregate by virtue of away goals inside 15 minutes, but the Algerian’s clinical penalty before the hour hauled us level.

Phil Foden then wrapped up a 4-2 aggregate victory with a sumptuous long-range drive, and Mahrez insisted that the players were always confident that we could turn the game around.

“We played good after the goal we conceded, we said (at half-time) we were going to score,” he revealed.

“We were very confident about the second half, we could’ve scored in the first half, I had one, the defender saved it, Kevin (De Bruyne) had one or two.

“We were very confident and that’s why we are through now.

“I don’t think we started very good but we came back after the goal, played good, created chances and at the end we had the opportunities to score and we did it.”
