Riyad Mahrez believes Manchester City will face a new and improved version of Paris Saint-Germain when the two sides do battle on Tuesday evening.

City and PSG meet on Matchday Two of the Champions League having both been drawn in Group A, just five months after an enthralling clash in last season’s semi-finals saw Pep Guardiola’s men come out on top as 4-1 aggregate victors.

Nonetheless, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have bolstered an already impressive squad with more big names over the summer, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma just to name a few.

And while Mahrez believes that City have also improved on last season’s exploits, he expects this PSG team to be a more difficult proposition than in previous encounters between the two sides.

He said: “Obviously, PSG are a very very good team.

“They are stronger this season, they have a bigger squad, but I think it will be more or less the same game as last season - very tight and the best on the day will win.

“They have strength everywhere, up front and behind. I forgot Ramos and the keeper as well, they have strengthened the whole team.

“They always had a good defence anyway but with Ramos and his experience and the new keeper as well is very good.

“Defensively, we were very good last season. We showed solidity in the Premier League and Champions League. It made us stronger.

“This season we kept that solidity, we have conceded few, and that’s where we have improved I think.”
