While United were able to get the better of us in the Community Shield and FA Cup during our famous title-winning campaign, Mancini’s men recorded memorable triumphs in each of our Premier League meetings.
City came away from Old Trafford with an astonishing 6-1 victory in October 2011, while Vincent Kompany’s header in April’s reverse fixture secured a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium and top spot with just two matches remaining.
Speaking in the new ‘93:20: The Ultimate Premier League Finale’ documentary that will be launched this Friday in line with the ten-year anniversary of our inaugural title win, former City boss Mancini has explained why he thinks his team made life difficult for our cross-city rivals.
“I think that we played many games in that year against United and every game was really difficult for them,” he said.
“Every year we improved, and I think that the game that we played at Old Trafford, 6-1, it gave us big strength for the championship.
“Also, for them it was really difficult to play against us because we played a different football.
“We were aggressive, we had the ball 70% of the match and I think we deserved to win that game (at the Etihad Stadium) and to win the Premier League.”
