Rodrigo stated that victory was a ‘good way to bounce back’ as all eyes point on Arsenal next Wednesday.

The Spaniard was the first to open the scoring after he jumped the highest to nod in Riyad Mahrez’s corner within the first five minutes.

Two late first half goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez cemented our lead going into half time.

Ollie Watkins pulled one back for the visitors in second half, but it wasn’t enough, as we got a much-needed victory at the Etihad.

And speaking with mancity.com in his post-match interview, Rodrigo was full of admiration for his team-mates.

“I think from the first minute we showed how good we are today,” the No.16 exclaimed.

“How we started with the pressing, even though we changed a bit of the tactics the involvement of the team was unbelievable, and we could have scored two or three more goals.

“I’m very happy because of my goal, we had an amazing first half, in the second half we controlled a bit less, but they had to step out, but after a defeat it’s always good to bounce back like this.”

Victory today closed the gap to Arsenal to three points, meaning a win in North London would put us top of the league.

“Of course, we have a massive chance to go top of the table, but we don’t have to think about this, we’ll try to be ourselves and show our personality in a very difficult stadium.

“But we are going to go there to show the best versions of ourselves.”

Rodrigo also took the time to applaud the fans for their support throughout the game.

“I don’t know what happened today honestly, but we need the crowd every day because I think when they are like this, they inject us with extra energy.

“We love them, but we need them like this because we really feel them on the pitch.”
