Rodrigo believes Erling Haaland has been a key figure in Manchester City's fluid formation and tactics this season.

Haaland has scored 51 times across all competitions since signing from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but has also forged an effective link with his team-mates outside the box.

The Norwegian is the top scorer in this year’s Champions League.

Ahead of Tuesday night’s semi-final first leg with Real Madrid, he already has 12 goals in just eight appearances this season.

The striker’s form has seen Pep Guardiola elect to make several alterations to his tactics across the course of the season.

The Spaniard is delighted that City have several ways to play around opposition and believes he can adapt to whatever is asked of him by Guardiola.

He said: “The arrival of a player like Erling added to the way we have played for a number of years.

“At first it was hard to find a way - not his ability to score, but to understand the players and how the team plays. There are other things other than just scoring.

“I am really satisfied with the tactical changes the coach has brought in, and we adapt to what the coach demands - a single pivot or double pivot - and with my experience it allows me to adapt.”
