Rodrigo believes Phil Foden is City’s best player in pockets of space between an opposition’s defence and midfield.

The Spaniard, speaking in Athens ahead of Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup clash with Sevilla, has been pivotal to many of our successes since his arrival in 2019.

It was his composed finish that sealed the Club’s first Champions League trophy in June.

Now Kevin De Bruyne, who has starred in midfield with Rodrigo for much of his time at the Etihad, is facing a lengthy injury layoff.

Asked whether Foden can fill the hole left by the Belgian, the Spaniard stated his admiration for the talents of our 23-year-old Academy graduate.

“I think he can play anywhere,” said Rodrigo.

“I think he is the best player we have between the lines, turning and facing the goal.

“When he plays there I like him there very much but when he plays winger he is also decisive.

“It’s up to the coach where he decides to put him. His talent can do it.”
