Lavia has enjoyed a remarkable rise since joining the Club last summer. Initially playing in the Under-18s, he quickly moved up to the Elite Development Squad and was voted Player of the Season as we won a first Premier League 2 title.

His progress was recognised when he was an unused substitute against RB Leipzig last week and he says being rewarded with his debut against Wycombe is a moment he will treasure forever.

“It was just crazy,” he told mancity.com. “What a night. What an experience.

“I enjoyed every minute. It was great to be here, to be able to show what I can do. [It’s] a night I’ll never forget.

“Every week I have tried to keep a good level. Everything that comes, we have to be ready for. From there it is just about building and now I am so glad to here.”

James McAtee was another to make his debut, coming off the bench for the final 18-minutes.

An attacking midfielder by trade, the 18-year-old was deployed at left-back, but took the unfamiliar position is stride.

“When he [Guardiola] shouted me over, I was like, ‘wow, it’s happening’,” he added.

“It was just a buzz. When I came on, I was smiling the whole way through.

“When I came on I went left-back. Pep said, ‘can you play there?’ I said anything to get on the pitch and I just tried my hardest.”
