Ruben Dias says City need to be the best version of ourselves to beat Real Madrid across two legs.

We host the 15-time European champions at 20:00 (UK) on Tuesday evening before the play-off tie is completed in the Spanish capital next Wednesday.

It is the fourth successive season we have faced Carlo Ancelotti’s side, with the victors going on to lift the trophy in each of the previous three campaigns.

The first of that run saw Real Madrid score twice to level the tie the closing stages of the second leg before progressing after extra time.

Dias says the pain of that defeat inspired the thumping 4-0 success at the Etihad the following campaign on our way to an historic Treble.

The 27-year-old says City are still aware that we’ll need to play a near-perfect game home and away to go through.

“When we won the Treble, the year prior was important for us. That feeling in the Bernabeu gave us the understanding how good you need to be to win this game,” he stated.

“Last year was frustrating because we dominated the game and even so we weren’t able to score the goal that would have made a difference.

“We know who we are facing - a team that plays differently to us. They won’t make it easy. We need to do what we do better than ever.”
