Sergio Aguero was delighted to mark his return to the starting line-up with a goal that puts Manchester City on the brink of a third Premier League title in four seasons.

The Argentine opened the scoring in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace with an emphatic half-volley as he made his first appearance in eight games.

City came up against a stubborn Palace defence in the first half, but Aguero’s timely intervention shortly after the break proved the turning point as Ferran Torres added a second 83 seconds later to put Pep Guardiola’s side in the driving seat.

It was only the Club’s record goalscorer’s fourth goal in a campaign severely disrupted by injury and he was thrilled to be back doing what he does best.

“I am so happy because I am back playing again,” he told CityTV afterwards.

“And, more importantly, because I scored a goal. We are happy.

Mendy tried to find me and inside the box I only have to do one or two touches. It’s my job.”
