To oversee the special delivery, Club legend Paul Dickov and OSC General Secretary Kevin Parker took to the road, travelling around Greater Manchester to surprise four branches who represented more than 1,000 local fans.
Paul and Kevin met members on doorsteps, in living rooms and even ended the day at the local pub of the Bredbury Blues branch. Meanwhile, the remaining shirts were sent direct to branch leads.
In line with the Club’s longstanding efforts to engage its network of more than 400 Official Supporters, this latest surprise was simply a way for the Club to say thank you to the branch closest to the Etihad Stadium for their fantastic, long-standing support.
In particular, the Club wanted to recognise the branch leaders who dedicate their time to organising events for their local City communities, and the day served as a celebration of the people who help make the Club what it is.
All 20 branches are welcome to independently decide what to do with the shirts, with some suggestions including displaying it somewhere special to the branch such as local pub, raffling them off for a charity, or donating the shirts to an important cause.
The stops included Hazel Grove Blues in Stockport, Marple Blues in Marple, Bredbury Blues in Bredbury and Reddish Blues in Stockport. While each branch knew a special gift from the Club was on its way, none expected to be greeted by Manchester City legend Paul Dickov, making the deliveries an even bigger surprise for supporters.
Commenting on the day, former Manchester City Striker, Paul Dickov, said: “I’ve done lots of these things, gone abroad to supports club and I think it’s important to show our appreciation to local clubs here in Manchester. You know the guys who have backed us through thick and thin for the last 30 year I’ve been at the club. So, it’s just a big thank you from us.”
