Pep Guardiola‘s side were in charge from the very first moment and needed less than three minutes to take the lead.
Phil Foden was the architect and benefactor, receiving the ball on the half turn and driving into the box before firing across goalkeeper Peter Vindahl.
City 5-0 Sparta Prague | Match report
Despite City’s dominance, the sides remained separated by just one goal until the break.
The second half began in frustrating fashion for City, who carried on where we left off.
That was until a piece of magic from Erling Haaland, who met Savinho‘s cross with an acrobatic, audacious finish unlike anything the 50,116 fans in the Etihad Stadium will have seen before.
John Stones backed it up with his second goal in two games, cushioning a Matheus Nunes cross into the far corner.
A 10-minute flurry of goals was complete with Haaland’s second on the night and 44th Champions League strike in just 42 appearances - finishing off a sweeping City move from back to front.
Nunes completed the scoring by winning a penalty and dusting himself off to send Vindahl the wrong way.
A superb night’s work for City!
