As Stefan Ortega Moreno leaves Manchester City to embark on a new challenge with Nottingham Forest, we look back on his time at the Etihad.

The German goalkeeper arrived at City from Arminia Bielefeld in the summer of 2022 and his attitude, ability and application quickly saw him become an important part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

His debut season was one that saw City create history by going on to secure the Treble with Ortega proving pivotal in particular in our FA Cup success that term.

Stefan featured for every minute of our Cup campaign and was a key figure as City defeated Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley in June 2023 to lift the famous trophy for the eighth time in our history.

If anything, Ortega’s impact proved even more profound the following campaign as City went on to secure a historic fourth consecutive Premier League crown.

All told, the keeper figured 20 times across the 2023/24 season with Ortega’s talent and influence epitomised by a defining late save to deny Tottenham’s Son Heung-min after he had come on as a substitute in our penultimate league game.

His heroic efforts helped City secure a 2-0 win and paved the way for a fourth league title – the first time an English men’s team had achieved that remarkable feat – with Ortega and the Blues also reaching a second successive FA Cup final.

Last term, Ortega again proved an assured dependable presence in goal, featuring 22 times across all competitions with Stefan also helping City grace the Wembley stage once more in the shape of a third consecutive FA Cup final date.

Now Stefan embarks on a new challenge but leaves with the grateful thanks for his time here from everyone at City.
