It’s the same for City fans as we acknowledge our former striker today on his departure for a new challenge at Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez moved to the Etihad Stadium in January 2022 from River Plate, but remained with the Argentine giants on loan until the end of the 2021/22 campaign, before linking up with his teammates in pre-season of 2022.
From that moment, he made a sizeable impact for Pep Guardiola’s side – notching up 36 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions and, most importantly, helping City triumph in six major trophies, including an unforgettable Treble in his debut season.
What’s more, La Arana also played a starring role for Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as his four goals throughout the tournament helped the South Americans win the showpiece trophy for the first time since 1986.
He has left today for pastures new in La Liga and departs with good will and good wishes from everyone at the club, including Pep Guardiola who spoke of his gratitude for the forward and the massive contribution he made in the past two incredible seasons at City.
