Tommy Doyle says he hopes to see his fellow City Academy graduates pushing for more first-team opportunities in the 2021/22 season.

The 19-year-old, who captained the Elite Development Squad to trophy success last season, gained more valuable first-team minutes in City’s 4-1 pre-season triumph over Blackpool - one of three exhibition games for Pep Guardiola‘s squad.

The youngster was introduced from the bench with 12 minutes to go at the Academy Stadium, making his first appearance of the summer.

One of an impressive crop of youngsters to have featured in our three friendly games, Doyle says he is proud of his fellow Academy stars, who are hungry and eager for more senior action this season.

“Of course, it’s most people’s [target],” he told ManCity.com. “A few of us trained with the first-team last season.

“We’ve had a year of experience, training with the manager, players and staff everyday. That helps us massively.

“We had a brilliant coach in Enzo Maresca and Danny Walker, who helped us a lot. We were learning every day and for us to win the league was massive but the next step is to get into the first-team and play senior football where we can.

“The next step for us is to get into the first-team playing senior football when we can.

“It’s been a good pre-season. We’ve got a lot of work in and everyone’s feeling good and looking good. You can’t complain with they games they’ve had - we’ve played well and scored a lot of goals so happy days!”
