The Club’s charity, City in the Community (CITC), has released a new video in its participant story-telling series, ‘We Are City in the Community’.

Each month CITC is spotlighting its work and programmes through the voices and stories of its participants across Manchester.

The tenth video sees Jodie discuss her journey from CITC Kicks participant to now 93:20 volunteer and how she felt empowered by CITC coaches to join the volunteer programme.

Jodie said: “The coaches at the Kicks session I attend have inspired me, so whilst I am on the 93:20 programme I hope that while I am out at Kicks sessions, I can inspire other girls and other people to do what I’m doing.”

Jack Byram, Community Outreach Mentoring Officer, said: “Having known Jodie for some years now through the Kicks programme, it has been amazing to see the progress she has made through that programme and signing up for 93:20.

“Jodie is going to be a real asset to the sessions and to the young people she is going to inspire at every session she attends.

“It is another part of the CITC journey for Jodie and it is inspiring to see participants such as herself embark on her own future whilst helping support the local community.

“I can see her confidence shining through at sessions, with her willingness to learn and take this opportunity to gain as much knowledge and experience as she possibly can amazing to see.”

Inspired by that famous ‘AGERUOOO’ title-clinching moment back in 2012, the 93:20 programme aims to give 20 volunteers the chance to complete 93 hours of volunteer work across CITC programmes, giving them the opportunity to go out and get a feel for what it is really like to become a coach.

A member of the CITC team will then be assigned a participant and mentor them, becoming part of their journey offering advice, support and guidance using their own experience as well as giving participants the opportunity to learn about CV writing and interview skills.

93:20 is part of the charity’s Healthy Futures pillar, which aims to create education and employability pathways.

City in the Community empowers healthier lives with city youth through football.
