Jarrod Bowen’s brace gave City a mountain to climb at half-time after the home side punished us for an uncharacteristically slow start at the London Stadium.
The winger fired the Hammers into a 24th minute lead when he latched onto Pablo Fornals’ ball over the top, rounded Ederson and converted from a tight angle.
Bowen got his second on the stroke of half-time after good link up play between Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio, collecting the striker’s pass and racing clear to drive the ball into the bottom right corner.
Jack Grealish pulled on back four minutes after the restart with a well-struck volley that flicked off Craig Dawson and over Lukasz Fabianski and City’s pressure eventually told when Vladimir Coufal headed Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick into his own net.
The Algerian winger had a chance to win the game when Dawson conceded a penalty for a trip on Gabriel Jesus, but Fabianski guessed correctly to deny City all three points.
