Nathan Ake feels the way in which Manchester City’s defence weathered the storm against Wolves bodes well for the rest of the season.

A superb first half performance paved the way for a superb 3-1 win at Molineux, but the hosts spurned several chances after the break before Raul Jimenez scored to set up a nervous final 10 minutes with the score at 2-1.

Gabriel Jesus’ late goal allayed any fears of a Wolves fightback and debutant Ake, who played at the heart of defence alongside John Stones, was delighted with the way the team stood up to the second half challenge.

“I think it’s very important to see out games,” he said when asked about City’s resilience.

“We know sometimes it’s going to be tough like this in the season, especially at places like this. To be defensively strong is important and then we have the quality up top.”
