The community football clinic was led by City in the Community coaches from Manchester, who delivered sessions from the Football & Water Education curriculum, which provides water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) education through specially adapted football games.
The City stars joined in the session, surprising over thirty participants from the local community, and hearing from local Xylem staff about their work in South Korea.
Reflecting on the day, Gareth Hughes, International Programmes Manager for City’s global foundation, said: “Through our partnership with Xylem, we are reaching and educating the next generation on important water issues around the world through the power of football.
“We were delighted to be able to share some of that knowledge as part of our pre-season tour activities, and to give back to the local community in Seoul.”
The sessions were inspired by the newly launched Football & WASH curriculum that Man City and Xylem have developed across the global network of Water Heroes Academy projects worldwide.
To date, Water Heroes Academy – the partnership between Xylem and City’s global charity initiative, Cityzens Giving – has empowered a global network of young community football leaders to deliver life-saving water awareness and education to over 12,000 children in 10 cities.
These projects combine football-based education on water with infrastructure upgrades using Xylem technology and expertise.
