Episode Three of Xylem’s Rainmakers series shows the new rainwater - harvesting football pitch in Teotihuacán, Mexico, nearing completion, as the project begins to make a real impact on the local community.

Builder and content creator Daniel Ashville returns to the site to see how the project has progressed and to witness the rainwater harvesting system in action for the first time. Over recent weeks, major milestones have been reached, including the installation of goalposts, pitch markings, drainage and solar panels, bringing the facility closer to becoming fully operational.

With the system now live, the pitch is already beginning to provide a reliable source of harvested rainwater for local residents. It is a simple but powerful example of how smart, sustainable solutions  can support everyday life.

But this space is about more than just water. Built alongside love.fútbol, the pitch is set to become a hub for the community. A place where young people can play, learn, and spend time together in a safe and welcoming environment.

One of the standout moments in the episode is the reveal of the pitch design. Inspired by the theme ‘Every Drop Counts’, the artwork features a raindrop motif created by local schoolchildren. The winning design came from eight-year-old Santiago, and it captures the community’s connection to water in a creative and meaningful way. The theme also links to the Club’s wider campaign around rainwater self-sufficiency at the City Football Academy.

During his visit, Daniel also meets coaches from City in the Community, who are helping to develop young leaders involved in the project. So far, 40 young people in Mexico City have been supported through training in leadership, community football, and water education, giving them the tools to make a lasting impact where they live.
