Bringing together Manchester City coaches with 28 volunteers, the one-day coaching session was a unique way to interact with young leaders and teach them practical skills that they can implement in their communities.
For Sandeep, a young leader, the coaching day was invaluable: “One thing I learned in today’s session is to not let kids stand in direct sunlight, when the light is on their face, they’ll look like they will not see us properly.
“It’s for us, as coaches, to face the sun so that the kids feel more comfortable and can learn better.”
Shaun Wright-Phillips attended the event and provided participants with the exciting opportunity to speak to him and capture pictures with the trophies.
“It’s always inspiring to see how football can impact the day-to-day life of young people, helping them develop self-confidence amongst other key skills,” said Wright-Phillips.
“It’s the second time I’ve visited a community project led by our long-time partner Magic Bus. Having the change to converse with young leaders to have a better understanding of their struggles and how football has helped them to impact their lives positively and the lives of their families has been invaluable.”
Earlier in the day, Shaun surprised some of our young leaders and participants at our community project in Sultanpuri where Manchester City and Etihad Airways collaborated with Magic Bus India Foundation on one of our global community projects ‘Healthy Heroes’.
This project is being implemented in five cities across India with further plans of expansion to two additional cities.
The project aims to harness the power of sports to equip adolescents (aged 12-14 years) from underprivileged communities with critical life skills and support them in their journey to school completion and future aspirations.
