The City and England defender enjoyed a night to remember, as Gareth Taylor‘s side booked our place in the semi-finals of the Women’s FA Cup with a thumping 6-0 win over Leicester City.
With Steph Houghton sidelined and Ellen White named on the bench, Greenwood was selected to skipper the side and marked the occasion with her first goal for the Club - a coolly converted penalty.
Speaking to mancity.com after the game, the 28-year-old spoke of her delight, especially for the response her side produced following a difficult run of results.
“It was nice to get the win first and foremost,” she reflected. “A clean sheet, back to winning ways... it felt good and will give us confidence moving forward, as focus turns to Sunday,
“It took me time to score a goal - it had been a long time coming - but it’s always a special moment to score.
“To captain a club like this is always an honour. We have our captain in Steph [Houghton] and she’s doing all she can from the stand and we have massive characters in the dressing room.
“It doesn’t matter who wears the armband but it was an absolute honour to wear it for this Club and an incredible moment for me.
“The most important thing was the result and the performance and I thought it was really professional from everyone. That reaction showed we have leaders and I’m really proud.
“That reaction was exactly what we needed.”
City will play Chelsea in the final four on Sunday 31 October. Fixture information and ticket details will be confirmed.
