Aoba Fujino says joining Manchester City is like a dream becoming a reality.

The exciting Japanese forward has made the switch from Tokyo Verdy Beleza, where she was twice named the WE League’s most valuable player.

A breakout star at the 2023 World Cup where she became her nation’s youngest ever goalscorer in the tournament, the 20-year-old said the chance to test herself in the Barclays Women’s Super League was an attractive prospect.

She added that doing so at a ‘top-level’ Club like City only added to that excitement.

“This is a very big club with a lot of history, so I’m really excited to come here,” Fujino explained in her first interview as a City player.

“In the league, both physically and technically, this is a top-level club. That is something that I find very appealing, the size of the team and the organization.

“Because the Club is top level, physically and technically it’s very important to play in this kind of environment. This way I can improve myself, focusing on my speed and quick decision making.

“I met the manager just now and he said he was excited to have me at the Club.

“Hearing that, and also visiting the stadium, it feels like the dream has become a reality. I’m really excited to play as soon as possible.”
