The first ever Manchester Derby in professional women’s competition will live long in the memory for all connected with City.
Fans, players, staff... it was a day to remember for all associated with the Club, especially defender Aoife Mannion.
The right-back, who celebrated her long-awaited return to match action in January’s 4-0 triumph over West Ham, following a 15-month absence due to an ACL injury, made her debut in September 2019’s historic clash.
Now back in contention, the defender is loving every minute and as the excitement builds ahead of Friday’s crunch FA Women’s Super Manchester Derby, fond memories have come flooding back of her first taste of the fixture.
A record crowd of 31,000 turned out to witness history at the Etihad Stadium and City claimed both the points and bragging rights, as Caroline Weir‘s incredible strike - the first ever goal in the fixture - edged a hotly-contested encounter.
We caught up with Mannion to recall her memories of that special day and hear her thoughts on the progress made since.
