Watch Club legend Laura Coombs give new signing Beth Mead a tour of her new surroundings…

England international Mead has become City’s first summer transfer, signing a three-year deal after leaving fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Arsenal.

One of the game’s most complete attackers, Mead holds the record for the most assists in WSL history and also sits fifth in the all-time scoring charts for the English top flight.

She also becomes the fifth owner of the number seven shirt during our professional era, taking on responsibilities from Laura Coombs, who announced her retirement at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

The midfielder made 158 appearances across a seven-year spell at the Club, winning every available domestic honour during that time including the Double this season.

The pair know each other well from their time facing off in the WSL and while on England duty together, and they caught up again on Beth’s signing day.

Coombs showed Mead around some key areas of our new Women’s First Team facility, chatting about the exciting future of this team, as well as their time playing with and against each other.

There was also, of course, plenty of discussion around walking routes and playdates for their dogs, Dukey and Myle!
