Caroline Weir could not hide her delight, having proven the hero once again in a Manchester Derby!

The Scotland international struck another sensational effort to hand Gareth Taylor‘s side a home win against our cross-town rivals, planting yet another exquisite chip over Mary Earps (one year and a day after doing so in the 2020/21 campaign) to snatch all three points in a thoroughly entertaining contest.

Speaking to mancity.com after the game, the midfielder, who was introduced from the bench, says nothing tops scoring a Derby Day winner!

“There’s no better feeling than scoring, especially in a Derby,” she smiled. “I’m delighted.

“We needed three points - the most important thing is the team - and we came out on top so I’m really happy for everyone.

“I’ve not seen the goal back but it felt a little bit better! I just picked the ball up in that area. I try it everyday in training and like last time, sometimes it comes off.

“Luckily again, it came off in a Derby and I’m delighted.”

There was further cause for celebration with a 5,317-strong crowd in attendance - an Academy Stadium record - and Weir hailed the vocal and passionate City faithful.

“It was amazing,” she added. “Especially scoring, you can’t really dream of anything better than scoring a winner in a Derby in front of that support.

“Thanks to all the fans who came out and helped us over the line in the end. We really appreciate their support.”
