Manchester City Women’s manager Andrée Jeglertz, and Director of Football, Therese Sjögran, surprised City in the Community (CITC) participants ahead of the charity’s matchday takeover against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday 21 March.

Seven unsuspecting participants from CITC’s 16+ programmes were invited to the Coop Live’s Canalside Cafe for a chat surrounding their educational experiences.

Unbeknownst to them, Andree and Therese were on their way to give some advice to the aspiring coaches.

Reflecting on meeting the CITC students, Andree said: “It’s so inspiring to see the energy in their eyes, and the curiosity they have for the job, it’s been fascinating and I’ve really enjoyed it.

“The work that City in the Community do is fantastic. The young people here want to go on to be coaches, and the fact that they give them the support opportunities to grow in that is amazing.”

Therese also commented on the surprise visit, saying: “It’s great to see them and get inspired by them and you can also see that that they get inspired by you, it makes us feel like a we are one.”

As well as some words of wisdom, the pair also handed out tickets to CITC’s matchday takeover.

Not only will the participants be attending the game, but they will also be welcoming players onto the pitch before the match.

Lucas, one of CITC’s 93:20 participant, described how he felt finding out about the opportunity:“Being surprised with the tickets was amazing.

“It’s such a unique experience and I’m very grateful that our group can do that as part of the community matchday.”

The seven participants represented four of CITC’s 16+ courses; City Degree, City BTEC, City Careers and the 93:20 programme.

All four sit under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, which aims to create education pathways and support employability by providing qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.
