Participants from across CITC’s City Inspires and City BTEC programme took part in a fun filled day with a morning of workshops focusing on mental health and wellbeing from CITC coaches, Great British Cycling, The FA and Our Goal.
In the afternoon, the celebrations continued with Jetblacks, who ran a dance activation, alongside CITC netball, volleyball and football activities, promoting positive engagement in sport.
CITC’s event aimed to promote confidence, leadership and equality, highlighting the importance of female participation throughout sport, as well as commemorating the messaging behind International Women’s Day and this year’s theme ‘Give to Gain’ which emphasises the power of reciprocity and support.
Manchester City Women’s, Alex Greenwood MBE also surprised participants at the event, coming down to take part in a Q&A session about her experience as a female in sport.
Speaking about her time at the event, she said: “It’s been a great opportunity, the girls have been able to come together, have fun, feel safe and enjoy themselves. For me, days like these are the most rewarding.”
Community Mentoring Officer, Alisha Bethell, explained why it is important that CITC host events like this for its female participants.
She said: “Today’s event allows all of our participants from all over City in the Community, to come together, and be a part of something incredible.
“We have provided a safe and inclusive environment and is designed to really celebrate and empower our young people.”
Amirah, a City BTEC participant, commented on her experience at the event, saying: “It has been really positive and intriguing to see so many women came together, and it’s really nice to see a lot of women who are interested in football and be supported by all the women around us.”
