Matching our highest ever points tally, breaking the league’s single-season winning record, a Golden Boot and a Golden Glove, there was plenty to be proud of at the end of the year.
City had missed out on European qualification the season before but, with an exciting young squad adding star quality in Jill Roord over the summer, hopes were high heading into the campaign.
A 2-0 win over West Ham United and gutsy 1-1 draw with Chelsea, despite being reduced to nine players, showed Gareth Taylor’s side had what it took to mix it with the best in the WSL in the early stages.
But it was our response to setbacks, such as a statement win over Manchester United at Old Trafford to end a two-match losing run in November, that really showed what this side were made of.

That victory sparked a remarkable 14-match winning run in the league, which included a 1-0 triumph away to Chelsea, the reigning champions’ first loss on home soil in over three years.
We would ultimately come up short on goal difference in the race for the title with Emma Hayes’ side, but with exciting talents like Jess Park, Khiara Keating, Mary Fowler and Laura Blindkilde Brown in particular showing what they’re capable of, the future is bright for City.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, who became the Club’s record scorer in March during a memorable 3-1 win over United at the Etihad Stadium, ended the season with the WSL Golden Boot, while Keating’s ten clean sheets at the other end earned her the Golden Glove award.
With 2024/25 seeing us set our sights on another title push and a return to UEFA Champions League action, the new campaign promises to be just as exciting as the last.
