The Blues returned to the WSL summit and extended our unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season to seven matches in all competitions.
We had to do it the hard way though, with Liverpool taking the lead as half-time approached when Olivia Smith fired home from distance.
It had been an off-colour performance from City, with Lauren Hemp going closest for the visitors before our equaliser just before the hour mark.

But the England international’s inviting ball into the Liverpool area from the left provided Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw with the ammunition to draw us level.
The goal turned the tide at Anfield, with City laying siege to the hosts’ goal for the final 30 minutes.
Shaw went agonisingly close to a second when she rounded Rachael Laws, only to see her effort come back off the post and scrambled away before Hemp could pounce.
Soon after, Alex Greenwood fired just wide from a corner among a flurry of other promising openings as the game ticked into stoppage time.
It looked like City would have to settle for a point until Laia Aleixandri played Shaw in behind, with the Jamaican too strong for her marker, Niamh Fahey.
After letting the ball run across her body, the forward rifled an unstoppable drive into the roof of the net to hand Gareth Taylor‘s side all three points.
It wasn’t pretty, but City got the job done.
