Despite the success, we were narrowly beaten to the title on goal difference as eventual champions Chelsea beat Manchester United 6-0 at Old Trafford.
After starting brightly, Mary Fowler broke the deadlock in the 25th minute with a sharp turn and finish into the bottom corner.
Gareth Taylor’s side held our narrow lead into the interval, but the hosts equalised with just over 20 minutes remaining when Rachel Daly darted into the box and slotted home against the run of play.
The visitors responded perfectly, though, and restored our lead late on when Lauren Hemp was rewarded for her strong display at Villa Park when poking home.
It represented our 18th win of the season as we matched our highest-ever WSL points tally.
