Gareth Taylor says City's ability to grind out a result despite a slightly off-colour performance at Arsenal bodes well for the season.

The Blues looked set to grab a statement win in our Barclays Women’s Super League opener but were ultimately forced to settle for a point against the Gunners.

Goals from Vivianne Miedema and Jess Park had City on course for a 2-1 win in front of over 40,000 fans at the Emirates Stadium but Beth Mead’s strike ten minutes from time forced a share of the spoils.

Taylor admitted his side weren’t at our best, but feels a draw away to our title rivals in a hostile atmosphere is certainly something to build on.

He said: “I’d have been happier with three [points] but given the context of the game, a season opener at the Emirates, in front of a big crowd, people have to understand what that does to the players.

“It’s a big game, it feels almost like a final, with a very big pitch.

“Of course we have to be fairly content, the exciting thing though is I don’t think we were at our best.

“If we can do that and still be off-colour and get a point, that’s a real positive.”
