Gareth Taylor says he is ‘super proud’ of his players after an impressive Barclays Women’s Super League season ended on Saturday.

Only goal difference could separate us from eventual champions Chelsea after both sides won their matches on the final day.

City did all we could with a 2-1 victory at Aston Villa but Chelsea’s 6-0 thrashing of Manchester United put them out of our reach.

Having pushed Emma Hayes’ side all the way, Taylor is looking at the positives.

“A lot of pride,” he began.

“I had a good feeling about today and it was there for us. With all the chances we created, we could have scored double figures.

“Our combination play around the box was really good. It was just that final action, whether it was their goalkeeper making a really good save or our last decision.

“Super proud. 18 games won in a 22 game season is usually enough to win the title and it hasn’t been for us because of goal difference.

“That’s frustrating for us because you never want to lose that way but there have been so many positives about this season and the way this team has played.”
