Gareth Taylor believes City’s convincing start to proceedings at Ashton Gate was crucial in our 6-0 Continental Cup victory over Bristol City.

City found ourselves five goals to the good at the break thanks to an emphatic first half display in the quarter-finals.

Lauren Hemp added a sixth on the hour to set the seal on a dominant performance, as we extended our unbeaten run to 14 in all competitions.

And the boss was pleased to see City assert our dominance on proceedings so swiftly.

“It was a really good display. From minute one, we really attacked the game well and played our football with urgency, with quality and scored some really good goals,” he said.

“I think it’s important if you can get them [early goals] because you know, pretty much, we were going to dominate the game from what we saw in the first five minutes.

“That’s testament to the players and the way they attacked the game.

“I think when you score, obviously, you then start to see a bit more freedom in the play, but then I think it’s about all the right things – maintaining the levels in the second half.

“I have to say I’m really pleased. I thought the level of play was really good, the goals we scored were great and the things we’ve been working on in the last few days have really come out.”
