Gareth Taylor says 'top player' Caroline Weir has the opportunity to take her game to an even higher level.

The Scotland international - a key component of City’s squad and talented weapon in our attacking armoury - reached new heights in the 2020/21 campaign with a string of impressive performances, chipping in with crucial goals and assists throughout the second half of the season.

Now two games into the new 2021/22 term - the first of which she scored - there are high hopes for the summer Olympian (one of only two Scots to have made the Team GB squad) and Taylor believes she can take her game even further.

“She’s a top player,” he hailed, speaking in his pre-match press conference before City’s Women’s Champions League Round Two second leg visit of Real Madrid.

“I was really excited to work with Caroline because I could see there were real gains to be made.

“It took us a while in terms of the trust and relationship with both of us. I promised her if she bought into it she would score more goals and provide more assists - play better if you like.

“Fair play to her, she really took the bull by the horns from December onwards. The next step for her is to nail down the small details to take her game to a higher level.

“She is certainly capable of that. I thought her performance against Everton was brilliant.”
