Gareth Taylor believes the presence of the City supporters gave his players a lift in our Women’s Super League victory over Everton.

In our first league match in front of fans for eighteen months, a flurry of first-half goals from Vicky Losada, Janine Beckie and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, plus a second half free-kick from Steph Houghton, rounded off a clinical 4-0 triumph.

The performance certainly gave the City fans who made the trip down the M62 plenty to shout about, and ensured we kicked off our WSL campaign in style.

And Taylor thanked those who travelled for their role in our victory, insisting three points taste all the more sweet thanks to their unwavering support.

“They were brilliant from the start. It’s great to see it,” the City boss beamed after the game.

“It makes days like this even more special when supporters are in. I thought from minute one all the way to the end they were fantastic.

“What I love about it is them also staying behind to congratulate the players and the players making it known that we really appreciate them.

“I can’t be critical today, I thought we managed the game really well, I thought we showed good early dominance, created a lot of problems at the front end of the pitch with Bunny, (Hayley) Raso and Janine (Beckie).

“They were a constant threat and really backed up well in the midfield and the guys at the back.”
