Gareth Taylor says defensive consistency is helping the performance of the team after a run of four successive clean sheets.

City claimed a vital 4-0 victory against Everton at the Academy Stadium on Wednesday, after a dominant performance resulted in two goals in both halves.

A Simone Magill own goal and an Ellen White finish put City ahead before late goals from Alex Greenwood and Laura Coombs completed an important night for City.

With Lucy Bronze being named ‘Player of the Match’ and Greenwood getting on the scoresheet, all eyes were on the defence, with another shut out at the back making it 11 clean sheets in 15 matches for Taylor’s side.

And, appearing before the media at his post-match press conference after the win against the Toffees, the City boss was full of praise for his back line.

“Lucy and Alanna on right side played really well tonight and controlled the game and counter attacks which allowed us to build up play,” Taylor expressed.

“That’s relatively a new partnership, those two on that [right] side. Alex has been the consistent one throughout the whole season.

“We’ve had so many emergency back fours that now we’re starting to see a little bit of consistency in the same players playing in those positions.

“I think that’s the reason why we’re getting that rhythm and run of form that these players are having now. We’re starting to see some really important data to support it and ours is looking really strong.”
