Gareth Taylor has thanked Vicky Losada for her efforts at City after the Spanish midfielder joined AS Roma earlier this week.

Losada arrived at City in the summer of 2021 from FC Barcelona. She made 29 appearances and scored nine goals as injuries restricted her time on the pitch.

However, Taylor believes she was pivotal in providing a welcoming atmosphere for the Spanish-speaking trio of Laia Aleixandri, Leila Ouahabi and Deyna Castellanos last summer.

“From a football perspective, Vicky has had some availability issues with injuries unfortunately,” said Taylor.

“When she has been available she has been important and her experience has been crucial.

“In that first six months of Laia, Leila and Deyna arriving, she was huge. That was great and they are grateful for that.

“She’s a good player and has a lot of football left in her but she felt she wasn’t necessarily going to get that game time here and wanted a new challenge.

“We never want to keep a player who isn’t happy or wants to fulfil another desire. She came to see the players this morning, we said our goodbyes and we wish her well at Roma.”

Ahead of Saturday’s Barclays Women’s Super League meeting with Leicester City, Taylor said he is pleased with his side’s response to the recent draw against Aston Villa.

The Blues are currently on a run of 15 matches unbeaten.

Since our last league clash - that draw with Villa - we have scored 13 goals without conceding in the cup victories over Bristol City and Sheffield United.

Taylor admits his side weren’t at their best against Aston Villa but they have remedied that since.

“I don’t think we dropped points against Villa,” he continued.

“We didn’t deserve them with our performance. In the last two games our performance has been top level albeit against Championship teams, but they’re the most tricky games when you think it is going to be easy.

“People keep talking about dropped points but it’s so difficult. These teams are improving massively. Nothing is ever won on paper, you have to earn it and that gives you the chance to win the points.”

Leicester v City

The match with the Foxes takes place on Saturday at the King Power Stadium, with an 11:30 (UK) kick-off.

City currently sit fourth in the WSL table and are enjoying a 15-game unbeaten run in all competitions – stretching back to September 2022.

Across this streak, we have also progressed into the Continental Cup semi-finals and the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup.

Meanwhile, the Foxes have seen an upturn in form since Willie Kirk took the managerial reins – securing a crucial 3-0 victory over Brighton last time out in the WSL.

Although Leicester are at the foot of the WSL league table, they’re now within touching distance of the Seagulls who sit one place above them with a four-point gap.
