Gareth Taylor says he was delighted with his side's determination, as City reached the FA Women's Cup semi-finals.

The holders edged an entertaining contest, defeating Leicester City 2-1 at Quorn FC, with Chloe Kelly netting her first goal for the Club and Georgia Stanway bagging the winner with a superb strike.

Although the Foxes clawed themselves back into the tie late on, the visitors held firm to book our place in the final four, setting up a mouth-watering home clash with Arsenal on Thursday night.

Taylor says he was pleased to see the squad’s desire to progress, as the away side “rolled their sleeves up” and ground out the win.

“I felt the team was really at it,” he reflected. “They rolled their sleeves up and they were determined to get through to the semi-final.

“That’s what it’s all about and it’s not just about the XI - the whole squad worked hard and showed a real team unity.

“It was edge-of-the-seat stuff, which is what you expect in a cup tie, but I thought we were in control for a lot of the game.

“Whey they sneak a penalty to get back into it slightly, there are always nerves around a set-plays, etc. but in general, our performance on the day (and on a difficult surface) in a cup tie was good.

“Leicester worked tremendously hard in the way they pressed us but it was always about getting through today and I thought elements of our play were really good.”

Taylor also heaped praise on summer recruit Kelly, and spoke of the importance of squad depth in the coming weeks, with Rose Lavelle nearing her first minutes for the Club.
