Gareth Taylor has highlighted the importance of Demi Stokes to his young City team after the defender made her 200th appearance for the Club.

The defender came off the bench in our 2-2 draw with Leicester in the Continental Cup to become only the third women’s player to become a double centurion.

With the two sides level after 90 minutes, it was down to the lottery of a penalty shootout, with the Foxes coming out on top to earn the bonus point in Group A.

It was a frustrating day at the office for City, but the return of Stokes for her first appearance since March was a welcome boost for Taylor.

Speaking after the match, he said: “Yeah of course [it’s nice to see her back]. She adds experience and quality on the ball and communicates well with the team.

“That 200th appearance has been a long time in the making, but we got there eventually.

“She reads the game really well and that experience she brings is something we’ve missed because we are quite a young team.”
