Gareth Taylor says the number of young players making their debuts has been a real boost for Manchester City and says the Club are working to further integrate Academy prospects into the first team environment.

The teenage trio of Khiara Keating, Ginny Lackey and Jemima Dahou have all made their senior bow in recent weeks, with Keating deputising between the sticks, whilst Lacky and Dahou made 15-minute cameos as City thrashed Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup.

Their progress has been cause for celebration, but ever keen to improve, Taylor says City must keep working to ensure the development squad can work more closely with their first team counterparts.

“We have been able to keep an eye on a couple of players and we made a decision to bring them with us for the FA Cup game against Forest and, as the game transpired, it was the perfect opportunity for them to get out and get some exposure,” he explained.

“It’s great for the Academy and great for us but we are under no illusions that there is still a lot of work to be done there.

“The ideal moving forward would be for the development squad to train alongside the first team at the same time. We are at the same venue but operate on different hours.

“What that allows you to do then is massive in terms of being able to introduce players very easy into your training sessions. It is something that needs to be looked at going forward.

“It takes a lot of organisation and a lot of logistical changes and organisation with it, but for me I think it is the right way to go.”
