Gareth Taylor wants his side to pick up exactly where they left off before the international break after two big wins in the Women’s Super League.

City won the Manchester derby at Old Trafford followed by an emphatic 7-0 victory over Tottenham at the Joie Stadium.

We’re back at home on Saturday for the visit of Aston Villa at 12:00 (UK) and Taylor wants the same level of performance.

“Can we do it again?” he said when asked how to prepare after such a big win. “It sounds really simple, two recent results in the WSL going to Old Trafford in that type of game and that pressure and to back it up with the type of performance we gave.

“We’ve talked about this team going and scoring and being really emphatic. Once we got the first goal we were relentless in what we tried to achieve and every action after that was to try to score a goal.

“When we play like that, when we show that quality, there are a lot of good things all the way from the back to the front and those that joined from the sub’s bench, there was a lot of strong contributions.

“It’s just trying to recreate that is the hardest thing, we know it’s not easy. We also know the only thing stopping us is us.

“We pay respect to opponents and we know Villa have some decent individual players that can hurt us but we feel if we bring the mentality and quality we’ll be a real match for anyone.”

The two sides met on three occasions last season with Villa winning twice, including in the FA Cup, while we were held in our home clash.

Villa finished fourth last season but have found it harder this term, sitting two points off the bottom, but Taylor says they have been playing better than results suggest.

“These two games before the break we put ourselves in a decent position,” he added. “We’ve suffered in the past against this team and we know how dangerous they can be.

“They are suffering a bit themselves in their results but their performances have been and they still carry that same threat and danger that we saw last season and I don’t see that changing.”
