Gareth Taylor said City’s battling 2-2 draw at Manchester United was just reward for a gutsy collective effort with everyone in the squad playing their part.

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw headed home a first half opener to register her sixth goal of the season for City, who had earlier been reduced to 10 players following the dismissal of Georgia Stanway.

However, two second half strikes from the hosts looked like earning United the spoils before City substitute Ellen White claimed a deserved late leveller.

And reflecting on the derby clash, Taylor praised the way his injury ravaged squad had all contributed to the common cause.

“It’s great credit for this group where we haven’t got a big pool to choose from (given our injuries) and I thought everyone put in a really good shift,” said the City manager.

“They deserved it and it would have been really harsh not to come away with a point.

“It was stressful, it was difficult to play our football losing the player but I felt we created opportunities even with 10 players but I have to say great spirit from the players to come back from behind. We showed great character.
