Gareth Taylor believes Wednesday night’s opening Continental Cup group stage trip to Everton will represent the toughest of tests for his side.

City begin our Continental Cup group campaign with a trip to Merseyside on Wednesday night where we will tackle Brian Sorensen’s side.

The League Cup is a competition that has brought the best out of City over the past few years with the Club having lifted the trophy on four occasions, most latterly in 2022.

While City go into the game on the back of a fine start to the new WSL campaign having taken four points out of six, the Toffees have suffered a tough opening, narrowly losing their first two matches.

However, City boss Taylor is expecting a demanding examination at the Walton Hall Park Stadium against Brian Sorensen’s side.

“Everton are a difficult team to play against,” Taylor cautioned.

“We played against them in pre-season. Brian, what he’s trying to do there is to be really brave in the way he plays, I like that, I think it’s to be admired.

“He’s trying to instil his style and try to manage a group who has changed with personnel and the way it’s evolving.

“But they make it really difficult, they’re progressive in play with the ball and they press really aggressively without the ball.

“I think it’s a good game for us, an exciting game and we treat the competition really seriously, as we always have.”
